Tent sites along the river.

The South Toe River is made up of tributaries and creeks that flow from Mt Mitchell and the Black Mountains.

The Old Man in the Stump.  The campground is open mid-April thru October.  It’s a 5.6 mile hike to the summit of Mt. Mitchell.

There are group camping areas separate from the main campground, with their own bathroom facilities and large picnic shelters.

This map and information stand is located at the trailhead across the road from Black Mountain Campground. There are miles of hiking trails that lead up into the Black Mountains and peaks along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

There’s a small camp store at Black Mountain Campground, and a community store with groceries and supplies within a few miles.  The Blue Ridge Parkway is 8 miles away on Forest Service Road 472.
