The Story of The Parkway Playhouse
It began in 1947 when a college professor from Greensboro, William Raymond Taylor, came to town and built the Burnsville Playhouse inside the old high school gymnasium, where he established the School of the Dramatic Arts, the first of its kind in the South. The theater was an immediate hit, and it has been staging plays in front of enthusiastic audiences for nearly 70 years. Today, Parkway Playhouse Junior carries on the education tradition and serves young actors between the ages of 4 to 18 with production classes, performing arts summer camps, and high school apprenticeships.
