This year’s event will feature over 25 authors including Brock Adams, Jaye Robin Brown, Lucy Corin, Anne Maren-Hogan, Jeanne Julian, Marjorie Hudson, J. Drew Lanham, Ray McManus, Grace Ocasio, Mimi Ormond, Cat Pleska, Adrian Rice, Ann Ross, Shelby Stephenson, and Crystal Wilkinson.  Fiddling legend Bruce Greene will perform with Shelby Stephenson and friends Thursday evening. Bruce will also give a solo concert on Saturday afternoon. 

 Special Events at 2017 Festival

Thursday night:  Free concert with Bruce Greene and Shelby Stephenson.  An evening of sharing music old and new.

Friday:  Two workshops (advanced payment required) and free sessions with authors from 9am to 5pm. This year’s Banquet, featuring award-winning culinary author Ronni Lundy, will be held Friday night at 7pm. Preregistration is required.

Saturday: Three more workshops and other free sessions with authors. Fiddler Bruce Greene will perform a solo concert from 2:00 to 2:45pm. Keynote speaker on Saturday night is James Reston, Jr.  Preregistration is required.

Readings and Discussions around town on Friday and Saturday, 9am – 5pm.  Free admission

Writing Workshops during the event will focus on Fiction, Memoir, Poetry, Young Adult Literature, and new this year is a workshop on Altered Bookmaking. Advance registration is required for all workshops. 

Malaprop’s, the Southeast’s premier independent bookstore, will be selling books throughout the event.





Burnsville Town Center

The Carolina Mountains Literary Festival is held in and around the Burnsville Town Center on South Main Street featuring public readings, workshops, seminars and other sessions devoted to the art and love of reading and writing.
